Denver e-bike notes
Denver sits on Colorado’s three-class framework, with extra trail and park overlays from the city and adjacent open-space agencies. Class 1 and 2 are typically the trail-friendly classes; Class 3 is more of a street bike here.

- Helmets
- Colorado requires helmets for riders and passengers under 18 on Class 3 e-bikes. There is no statewide adult helmet mandate for Class 1/2, but Denver traffic and mixed-use paths still make a helmet the practical choice.
- Where you can ride
- City streets and bike lanes generally allow qualifying e-bikes. Cherry Creek, Platte River, and mountain-park connectors often post class limits. Jefferson County, Boulder, and federal land immediately outside the city can be stricter than Denver proper.
- Sidewalks
- Downtown and dense commercial sidewalks often restrict riding. Use the street or a marked bike facility unless a sign clearly allows sidewalk use.
- Extra local rules
- Colorado Class 3 bikes typically need a speedometer and are kept off many bike/pedestrian paths unless a local authority opens them. Posted park and open-space rules control even when the state summary looks permissive.
